At the end of the 1990s, Chinese steel production was still relatively unknown in Europe and in Italy in particular. But constant investment, newly designed production lines and the ability to meet high quality standards were a clear demonstration of the segment’s enormous potential. This was the business insight behind the launch of the Baosteel Italia project in 2001. Right from the outset, the company’s shareholders have been the Baosteel Group and the Malacalza family of Italian entrepreneurs, who have over forty years’ experience in the steel business. The success of Baosteel is revealed not only by how many tonnes of steel are imported, but also by a long list of satisfied customers in the automotive, food packaging, electric motors, transformers and household appliances sectors.

In 2011, after a decade of growth and consolidation, Baosteel entered a new stage in its development. A joint venture with Siderugica Modenese gave Baosteel Italia access to a Service Center in Modena which, with its highly skilled resources, latest generation equipment and a strategic geographical location, improves the company’s market presence and competitiveness in Italy, particularly in the automotive sector and relative supply chain.
